Our History

On April 17, 2020, moved with compassion, Rev. Jeph Nobel and Rev. Brian G. Najapfour, both pastors of Eastmanville United Reformed Church, made a fundraising video for two causes: one for “Love In the Name of Christ” (LOVE INC) ministry and one for the churches in the Philippines that are heavily affected by the COVID-19 pandemic.

Generous people from all over North America responded immediately; and within about two weeks, they raised $2,580 for LOVE INC and $3,640 for the churches in the Philippines. The money was right away wired to Mr. Mar G. Calipara, our volunteer coordinator in the Philippines and the one who first took the initiative to help. The fundraising appeal that Rev. Nobel and Rev. Najapfour made was born out of Mr. Calipara’s burden to further help the needy in the Philippines.

With the money that was raised, eight small churches were helped. In total more than 200 families became recipients of the donations. Under the leadership of their pastors, these churches used the money to buy food such as pork, chicken, vegetables, and rice to distribute among their members. Yet these churches also shared their blessings with non-church members in their communities that they were trying to reach out with the gospel.

On May 19, 2020, with a desire to continue ministering to the needy in the Philippines, Rev. Najapfour and Mr. Calipara founded God Is Our Help Ministry.

“God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble” (Psalm 46:1).
